How To Hack Terminals In Fallout 76

How To Hack Like An Expert In Fallout 76

Hacking is a crucial part of successful play in Fallout 76. It used to be that picking locks was the way to all the great loot, important information, or just being sneaky and around someone else’s diary. However, hacking has become the new lock picking in the futuristic world of Fallout 76.

The terminals you can hack have four different difficulty levels, ranging from 0 to 3. The terminals with a difficulty level of 0 are very rare. This means, if you want to engage in successful hacking in Fallout 76, you’ll need to acquire the hacking perk.

To get the hacking perk, you’ll have to get the Hacker perk card. This is available once you’ve achieved Level 5. You’ll then have to add it to your Intelligence slot.

Your hacking ability is covered by three different levels you’ll be familiar with from previous Fallout games, Standard, Expert, and Master. Once you acquire the hacker perk, you’ll be able to hack all terminals with a level one difficulty level. To hack level two terminals you’ll need to obtain expert hacker status. Finally, you need master hacker status to break through all level three terminals.

The big difference between hacking in Fallout 76 and in previous games is that now hacking takes place in real time. What does that mean? It means you can get damaged while you’re hacking. The game doesn’t stop for you to complete your hack.

This brings a whole new element to hacking in Fallout 76 that didn’t exist in previous games. Now you take on much greater risk. However, you’ll never know what the reward might be if you don’t start hacking those terminals. What you find could be the key to your survival.

So what are the nuts and bolts of hacking? Once you have the hacker perk and approach a terminal you’ll see a screen with a bunch of mixed up text, numbers, and symbols. You must figure out the password to the terminal from this information.

This gets tougher on terminals with higher difficulty, meaning the password gets longer. If you guess incorrectly four times, you’ll trigger terminal time-out duration. This is simply the amount of time that must pass before you can try hacking the terminal again.

One of the changes in your favor is that you won’t have to wait as long to go back and try to hack a terminal again if you get it wrong the first time.

You can only hack terminals. Hacking in Fallout 76 does not include hacking robots or long-distance remote hacking.

Unlike others, the hacker perk doesn’t automatically upgrade. For both expert and master hacker, you’ll need to get the cards and then equip them. Just like you can’t get the hacker perk at all until level 5, you will need to reach certain levels in order to be able to make these upgrades.

Becoming A Master Fallout 76 Hacker

The Expert Hacker perk isn’t available until you reach level 22. You can’t access the Master Hacker perk until you’ve achieved level 38 in the game.

In order to upgrade, the hacker perk cards must be equipped specifically under the Intelligence perk.

While it may not seem as easy to acquire hacking perks, they are really important to the game so pay attention to how you handle your perks.
